20 Most Iconic Star Wars Quotes Of All Time

Star Wars is one of the most well-known and popular movie franchises out there. In addition to awesome space battles, lightsaber duels, and loveable characters, it has also produced a raft of memorable lines.

Without further ado, let’s dive in and explore the 20 most iconic Star Wars quotes of all time.

1. “May the Force Be With You.”

This line is memorable in part because it is repeated so many times throughout the franchise, by many different characters. It is often said as a well-wish when characters part ways, especially among the Jedi.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was the first character to use some form of this statement in the original Star Wars movie, A New Hope, when he said to Luke, “The Force will be with you always.” Later in the same film, General Dodonna and Han Solo each used the phrase, “May the Force be with you.”

2. “I Have a Bad Feeling About This.”

This is another quote that is iconic because of how often characters say it.

First used a couple of times in A New Hope, some variation of the line has been said at least once in every Star Wars film released. It often appears in other Star Wars media as well.

3. “Help Me, Obi-Wan Kenobi–You’re My Only Hope.”

In A New Hope, Luke is cleaning the droids his uncle has just purchased when he accidentally triggers a part of a message stored in one of them.

In the message, a beautiful young woman pleads for aid: “Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi–you’re my only hope.”

“Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi, You’re My Only Hope.”

The message plays again and again, prompting Luke to seek out “old Ben” Kenobi and ultimately leading him on his mission to rescue Princess Leia.

4. “These Are Not the Droids You’re Looking For.”

Very little was known about the Jedi and the Force when A New Hope first hit theaters. However, we got to see both in action when Luke’s speeder was searched by Storm Troopers in Mos Eisley.

The troopers are suspicious of the droids riding in the speeder and demand to see Luke’s identification. Obi-Wan waves his fingers and says, “You don’t need to see his identification. These aren’t the droids we’re looking for. He can go about his business. Move along.”

The trooper doing the talking repeats each sentence before motioning Luke to “move along.”

When Luke questions Obi-Wan, he says, “The Force can have a strong influence on the weak-minded.”

5. “Let the Wookiee Win.”

Let the Wookie Win

On their way to return C-3PO and R2-D2 to Alderaan, Luke and Obi-Wan gain passage in the Millennium Falcon. While traveling through hyperspace, Luke trains with a lightsaber, Han Solo talks about hokey religions, and Chewbacca plays a game of Dejarik with R2.

Chewie begins yelling and screeching when R2 makes a fair move that doesn’t work in the Wookiee’s favor. Han warns R2 not to upset Chewie, and C-3PO points out that no one worries about upsetting a droid.

“That’s because droids don’t pull people’s arms out,” Han says.

C-3PO takes one look at Chewie, then says, “I see your point, sir. R2, I suggest a new strategy. Let the Wookiee win.”

6. “Use the Force, Luke.”

Though Darth Vader strikes down Obi-Wan in A New Hope, the old Jedi master did, indeed, become more powerful than the Sith Lord could have imagined.

This is illustrated later in the movie, when Luke hears Obi-Wan’s voice in his mind, instructing him as he begins his critical attack run on the Death Star.

“Use the Force, Luke,” Obi-Wan says. “Let go. Luke, trust me.”

Use The Force Luke...

This prompts Luke to switch off his targeting computer and fire the shot using only the Force to guide him. The shot hits home, destroying the Death Star and saving the rebel base.

7. “The Force is Strong With This One.”

In A New Hope, this line comes right after Obi-Wan’s “Use the Force, Luke.”

As Darth Vader pursues Luke’s X-Wing, attempting to take him out before he can fire his shot, Vader detects Luke’s Force sensitivity.

“The Force is strong with this one,” he remarks to himself.

8. “I Find Your Lack Of Faith Disturbing.”

Darth Vader utters this line in A New Hope when one of the Imperial officers expresses skepticism of the Force and insults Vader’s adherence to it.

Vader uses the Force to choke the officer nearly to death, saying, “I find your lack of faith disturbing.” Grand Moff Tarkin has to order Vader to release the officer; otherwise, Vader likely would have killed him.

9. “Why, You Stuck-Up, Half-Witted, Scruffy-Looking Nerf Herder!”

In The Empire Strikes Back, Han brags about himself and Leia to Chewie. “You didn’t see us alone in the south passage. She expressed her true feelings for me.”

Leia replies, “What? Why, you stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder!”

To which Han, wounded, replied, “Who’s scruffy-looking?”

10. “I Love You.” “I Know.”

Han and Leia often had a rocky relationship. Never was this more evident than in The Empire Strikes Back.

Throughout the entire film, they argued and insulted each other but the romantic tension was clearly evident.

When they are betrayed into Darth Vader’s hands, Leia is forced to watch as Han is frozen alive in carbonite. Knowing he may not survive the experience, Leia finally admits her feelings.

“I love you,” she says.

“I know,” is Han’s classic reply.

One interesting tidbit is that Harrison Ford, who played Han Solo, actually ad-libbed this line.

11. “Do or Do Not–There is No Try.”

This iconic quote comes from The Empire Strikes Back. Yoda was attempting to teach Luke to lift his X-wing from the swamp by using the Force. Luke is skeptical but says, “All right, I’ll give it a try.”

Yoda’s response? “No. Try not. Do or do not–there is no try.”

12. “I am Your Father.”

It was perhaps one of the most shocking and unexpected twists in cinema history–when we learned that Darth Vader was not only Luke’s greatest enemy, but his father as well.

Toward the end of The Empire Strikes Back, Luke confronts Vader on Cloud City but is soon overpowered. Vader cut off his hand, leaving him disarmed and cornered. Vader then attempts to convince Luke to join him, but Luke refuses.

“Obi-Wan never told you about your father,” Vader says.

“He told me enough,” Luke replies. “He told me you killed him.”

“No… I am your father.”

This revelation stuns Luke, but fails to convince him to leave behind the ways of the Jedi.

13. “Rebellions Are Built On Hope.”

Rogue One is a standalone Star Wars film that details the events leading up to A New Hope. In this movie, we meet Jyn Erso, the daughter of the man who was forced to design the Death Star.

Now an adult, Jyn learns that her father designed a flaw within the Death Star, making it vulnerable to attack from individual starfighters. Though he is killed before she can rescue him, she is determined his death will not be in vain.

However, when she requests help from the Rebel Alliance to steal the Death Star plans and exploit the weakness, she is met with resistance. The rebels do not believe they have the strength to attack the Empire on Scarriff and obtain the plans.

“You are asking us to invade an imperial installation based on nothing but hope,” one rebel representative says.

“Rebellions are built on hope,” Jyn replies.

She ultimately fails to convince the Alliance, however, prompting her, Cassian Andor, and a few other comrades to attack Scarriff alone in what ultimately proves to be a suicide mission.

14. “I’m One With the Force. The Force is With Me.”

Chirrut Imwe | One With The Force (Star Wars)

Chirrut Imwe made his lone movie appearance in Rogue One. A blind monk from Jedha, Chirrut joins Jyn’s cause and becomes a member of Rogue One, the squad that attacked Scarriff.

Though not technically a Jedi, Chirrut is an exceptional fighter who makes extensive use of the Force.

Several times throughout the movie, he says, “I am one with the Force. The Force is with me.” He repeats this phrase again and again during his final battle in the movie’s climax.

15. “Be Careful Not to Choke on Your Aspirations, Director.”

Rogue One: Darth Vader visits and force Chokes Director Krennic

In Rogue One, Darth Vader speaks with Director Krennic, who is in charge of the Death Star’s construction.

Thinking he is about to lose his job over the attack on Jedha, Krennic is relieved when Vader orders him to “assure the emperor that Galen Erso has not compromised this weapon in any way.”

Krennic then has the gall to ask Vader to put in a good word for him with the Emperor. Vader Force chokes him, saying, “Be careful not to choke on your aspirations, director.”

16. “This is the Way.”

The Mandalorian S1-3: THIS IS THE WAY Count

The Mandalorian was the first of several live-action series released on Disney Plus and has seen continual success.

The show’s titular hero, Din Djarin, is a disciple of the strict Mandalorian Code, which, among other things, forbids him from removing his helmet.

The Code is often referred to as “the way.” As such, “This is the way” has become an often-repeated phrase in the show, nearly as iconic as “May the Force be with you” and “I have a bad feeling about this.”

17. “I Can Bring You In Warm, or I Can Bring You In Cold.”

I can bring you in Warm or I can bring you in Cold

Din Djarin was introduced as a ruthless bounty hunter. His first line in The Mandalorian was when he told his quarry, “I can bring you in warm, or I can bring you in cold.”

He later repeated this line in his appearance in The Book of Boba Fett.

18.  “So This is How Liberty Dies–With Thunderous Applause.”

This is How Liberty Dies....To Thunderous Applause

In Revenge of the Sith, we learn how the Galactic Republic became the Empire and what prompted Anakin Skywalker to become Darth Vader.

Anakin’s wife, Senator Padme Amidala, watches in growing horror as Supreme Chancellor Palpatine elaborates on the “Jedi rebellion” and his plans moving forward.

“In order to ensure the security and continuing stability,” Palpatine says, “the Republic will be reorganized into the First Galactic Empire for a safe and secure society.”

As the Senate cheers, Padme remarks to Senator Bail Organa, “So this is how liberty dies–with thunderous applause.”

19. “You Were the Chosen One!”

Star Wars Revenge Of The Sith-You Were The Chosen One!

In Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan confronts Darth Vader on Mustafar. They duel around the lava that flows all over the planet, with Obi-Wan eventually taking the high ground. Unwilling to surrender, Vader attacks and Obi-Wan cuts off his legs and remaining arm.

As Vader lays there near the lava and eventually catches fire, Obi-Wan laments what his former padawan has become.

“You were the chosen one!” he cries. “It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them! Bring balance to the Force, not leave it in darkness! You were my brother, Anakin. I loved you.”

20. “I’m All the Jedi.”

I'm all the Jedi || Scene from Star wars Rise of Skywalker|| Shadow Clips

Perhaps the most iconic quote from the Sequel Trilogy, Rey says this during her climactic battle with her grandfather, Palpatine.

Seemingly defeated, Ray calls out to all the past Jedi for help. She hears their voices in her mind, giving her the strength to rise and draw Palpatine’s Force lightning.

Palpatine tells her, “You are nothing. A scavenger girl is no match for the power in me. I am all the Sith.”

Using the Force to take up Ben Solo’s lightsaber, she crosses it with her own, telling Palpatine, “And I–I’m all the Jedi,” and deflects his lightning back on himself, destroying the Sith Lord.
