In the Comics, Rebuilding Superhero Damage Is Literally Their Job
Damage Control was created as Marvel’s behind-the-scenes cleanup company.
While the Avengers and Spider-Man fight the villains, these are the people who arrive afterward with construction crews, insurance adjusters, engineers, and rescue teams to put everything back together.
Marvel describes them as the crew responsible for rebuilding New York after everything from giant robots to massive superhero battles.
So when an entire building gets smashed during a comic issue and somehow returns later, Damage Control may have been working in the background the entire time.
They’ve Even Cleaned Up After World War Hulk
And we’re not talking about fixing a few broken windows.
After World War Hulk, New York was left devastated by one of Hulk’s most destructive rampages.
Marvel literally published World War Hulk: Aftersmash – Damage Control, following the company as it tried to rebuild the ruined city afterward.
They’ve also handled damage connected to the Infinity Gauntlet and countless other superhuman disasters. Marvel’s 2022 Damage Control series again describes them as the people who arrive after “Hulk-level catastrophes” to get everything back to normal.
The MCU Has Its Own Version
The MCU introduced Damage Control in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
After the Battle of New York, Tony Stark and the U.S. government formed the Department of Damage Control to clean up the alien wreckage left behind by the Chitauri invasion.
That means while the Avengers were celebrating after saving Manhattan, another organization was already moving in behind them to remove alien technology, clear destroyed buildings, and secure dangerous debris.
And that cleanup operation accidentally helped create another problem.
When Damage Control took over the Battle of New York salvage operation, Adrian Toomes lost his contract. He secretly kept some Chitauri technology, eventually turning it into weapons and becoming Vulture.
So the next time Marvel destroys half of New York, and everything somehow looks fine again…
