The MCU has introduced gods, monsters, and beings so huge that even the Avengers would look microscopic next to them.
But size is only part of it.
Some of these creatures can destroy planets. Others exist beyond normal reality entirely.
Here are five of the most powerful giant beings we’ve seen in the MCU.
5. Surtur
At the beginning of Thor: Ragnarok, Surtur doesn’t look particularly unstoppable. Thor defeats him and takes his crown back to Asgard.
But that wasn’t Surtur at full power.
Once Loki placed his crown into the Eternal Flame, Surtur transformed into an enormous being powerful enough to fulfill Ragnarok.
He overwhelmed Hela and plunged his sword through Asgard, destroying the entire realm. Marvel’s official MCU guide confirms that Ragnarok occurs when Surtur’s crown is reunited with the Eternal Flame.
Hela had just destroyed Mjolnir and dominated almost everyone who challenged her.
Surtur still took her down along with the entire planet beneath them.
4. The Celestials
If Surtur destroys worlds, the Celestials help create them.
Eternals revealed that Celestials are ancient cosmic beings responsible for creating suns and helping new galaxies form. Arishem also created the Eternals to assist with the birth of more Celestials.
And their scale is ridiculous.
The birth of Tiamut alone would have destroyed Earth, while Arishem is so enormous that simply appearing near Earth dwarfs the planet’s surroundings.
Marvel describes Celestials as ancient beings whose influence has shaped entire civilizations and species.
They aren’t simply giant aliens.
They’re part of the machinery that keeps the universe producing new life.
3. Dormammu
Dormammu is difficult to even call a “creature.”
He’s more like a living cosmic force.
Dormammu rules the Dark Dimension, where normal concepts such as time don’t function the same way. His goal in Doctor Strange was to absorb Earth into that realm just as he had absorbed other worlds.
And Strange never actually defeated him with raw power.
He used the Time Stone to trap both of them inside an endless loop until Dormammu finally agreed to leave Earth alone. Marvel’s official Doctor Strange history confirms that Strange had to use this time-loop trick to force Dormammu to retreat.
When your opponent can’t beat you and instead has to annoy you for eternity…
you’re probably pretty powerful.
2. Eternity
Then we reach the beings that aren’t really “creatures” at all.
Eternity is the physical embodiment of the universe itself.
In Thor: Love and Thunder, Gorr searches for Eternity because whoever reaches it first is granted a wish.
And it works.
Gorr asks for his daughter to be restored to life, and Eternity actually brings her back.
Marvel’s comic mythology describes Eternity as the living embodiment of time and the sentience of the entire cosmos, possessing power on a scale almost impossible for humans to understand.
The MCU hasn’t even begun showing what Eternity can really do.
Granting a wish powerful enough to reverse death may only be the beginning.
1. The Living Tribunal
And somehow, there’s something above Eternity.
During Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Strange and America Chavez briefly travel through a reality containing the enormous three-faced form associated with the Living Tribunal, giving the cosmic entity its first proper MCU cameo.
We haven’t seen it actually fight yet.
But Marvel’s established cosmic hierarchy is terrifying.
Marvel describes Eternity as an embodiment of the entire universe—and states that Eternity answers to the Living Tribunal, a being beyond what would normally even be considered a deity.
The Tribunal’s purpose is essentially to judge cosmic threats and maintain balance on a multiversal scale.
So Surtur can destroy a realm.
Celestials can create worlds.
Dormammu can consume realities.
Eternity represents a universe.
But the Living Tribunal sits in judgment over beings on that level.
And we’ve barely seen what it can do yet.
