There’s a bizarre MCU theory claiming that Captain America could secretly be Star-Lord’s grandfather.
And somehow, it starts with one actress appearing in two completely different Marvel movies.
Laura Haddock plays Meredith Quill, Peter Quill’s mother, in Guardians of the Galaxy. But years earlier, she also appeared briefly in Captain America: The First Avenger as a woman who approaches Steve Rogers during his USO tour.
That tiny cameo gave fans an idea.
What if Haddock’s character in The First Avenger was actually Meredith Quill’s mother?
The theory suggests that she and Steve may have had a brief relationship before Steve disappeared into the ice. If she later gave birth to Meredith, that would make Steve Rogers Peter Quill’s biological grandfather.
And surprisingly, the timeline almost works.
Steve’s encounter with the woman happens during World War II. Meredith could theoretically have been born sometime afterward, grown up, met Ego in the 1970s, and eventually given birth to Peter Quill in 1980. That coincidence is one reason the theory spread so widely online.
It would also make Peter’s family tree completely ridiculous.
His father would be Ego, a Celestial, while his grandfather would be Captain America, the world’s first super-soldier.
There’s just one problem.
James Gunn says none of it is true.
The Guardians of the Galaxy director directly shut down the theory, pointing out that Meredith’s actual father already appears in the movies, played by Gregg Henry. Gunn later dismissed the idea again as “hogwash” and noted that Meredith was born long after Steve went into the ice.
So Captain America is not canonically Star-Lord’s grandfather.
Laura Haddock simply happened to play two different characters in the MCU.
Still, for one of the wildest Marvel fan theories ever created…
it came surprisingly close to making sense.
