The Lifestyle of the Mandalorian (Eat, Sleep, Kiss, & Die)

The Lifestyle of the Mandalorian (Eat, Sleep, Kiss, & Die)

The Mandalorian is a fascinating character that usually is concealed by his helmet and armor. Although Din Djarin was not born on the planet Mandalore, he follows the Code of the Mandalorians–most of the time.

Living by this code means he rarely takes off his helmet and armor. Keeping these items on all the time makes it tricky to do daily activities.

How does the Mandalorian eat, sleep, kiss, and die? As The Mandalorian series has revealed, Din Djarin does remove his helmet at times, which makes some of these things possible.

How Does Mando Eat?

The episode “Sanctuary” from season 1 showed us how Din Djarin eats. Once he was alone inside a simple house, the Mandalorian took off his helmet and ate.

Otherwise, audiences do not see Din Djarin’s face, which provides a level of intrigue and fascination to the character.

The Mandalorian also tipped his helmet up to drink some soup with Grogu in season 2, episode 4. So, he can consume some food items that way.

In season 2, episode 7, Din Djarin also removed his helmet to change into a stormtrooper outfit. This removal was for an important mission and not part of the usual protocol.

In the season 1 finale, Din Djarin was gravely wounded and removed his helmet so that IG-11 could save him. This probably amounts to breaking his code, but it did allow him to live and continue to protect Grogu.

Mainly, though, the Mandalorian only removes his helmet when others are not around, and usually to eat.

The same rules most likely apply to showering. The series does not address this topic, but we may assume that is the case.

In comparison, some Mandalorians do remove their helmets quite often. As The Mandalorian depicted with Bo-Katan Kryze, many Mandalorians do remove their helmets.

Since Mando is part of the break-away faction known as the Children of the Watch, he lives by a stricter standard.

How Does Din Djarin Sleep?

Since Din Djarin can remove his helmet to eat, he may remove his armor and helmet to sleep. That would make sense.

However, he is almost constantly on guard to protect Grogu and himself. So, the opposite could be true.

Out of habit, necessity, and tradition, the Mandalorian probably sleeps with his armor on most of the time.

Beyond the need for battle, Din Djarin was raised by the Mandalorians, and wearing the armor is central to their culture. It is part of the Six Actions that define Mandalorian identity.

Din Djarin tries his best to live up to this standard, so we could assume he practices this discipline at night too.

Then again, we do see Boba Fett remove his armor and helmet. So, he may practice that way at nighttime. But Fett does not follow the Mandalorian code.

The Mandalorian Kiss

Din Djarin does not seem to be the most romantic Star Wars character. The way he kisses could be seen as evidence of that proposition.

The Keldabe kiss is how Mandalorians kiss. It amounts to a headbutt. The Mandalorian Jango Fett demonstrated this “kiss” with Obi-Wan Kenobi.

This type of kiss coincides well with the warrior ways of Mandalorians. The name derives from the capital city of the planet Mandalore.

The Keldabe kiss can also take gentler forms, more of a light tapping of helmets to reflect a greeting or kinship. This more mild form originated from Mandalorian couples who were wearing their helmets and armor.

If the Mandalorian is in private, he may just kiss the way other humans do, but that has not been shown in the series.

How Does the Mandalorian Die?

Din Djarin almost died at the end of season 1. In this case, he would have died with his helmet on, but he took it off and it saved his life.

Although this Mandalorian survived, many of his people did not. Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series depicted how the planet of Mandalore became ensnared in the Clone Wars and then occupied by the Empire.

Civil War between competing Mandalorian clans ensued, with many dying as a result. In The Mandalorian, the show reveals the Great Purge that wiped out many of the Mandalorians. They presumably died in combat with Imperial forces.

Mando is among the survivors. In the final episode of season 2, he almost died in hand-to-hand combat with Moff Gideon, who wielded the Darksaber. Yet, Din Djarin prevailed and lived on.

Based on his living by the Code and record of combat, if and when the Mandalorian dies, it will most likely be with his helmet on.

The End Of The Mandalorian Season 2 Explained

The Lifestyle of the Mandalorian

The Mandalorian does remove his helmet to eat and when he is alone. He probably still sleeps with it on, though, because of his constant on-guard nature. He most likely practices the Keldabe kiss as a custom.

He has managed to survive by removing his helmet, but if he were to die it would probably be with his armor and helmet on.

Season 3 is bound to provide more insights into the lifestyle of the Mandalorian.
