Daniel Radcliffe has finally addressed years of fan casting linking him to Wolverine – and it sounds like he’s ready to leave those claws to someone else.
Speaking with ComicBook, Radcliffe confirmed that the rumors about him becoming the MCU’s next Wolverine were never actually real.
“It was never real. It was a very flattering internet rumor.”
The actor explained that nobody with the power to make the casting happen had ever approached him about the role. Radcliffe admitted that he would obviously consider a major opportunity like Wolverine if it were offered, but there’s one big reason he isn’t chasing it: Hugh Jackman.
After Jackman spent decades defining Wolverine on the big screen, Radcliffe said that being the actor who immediately follows him simply isn’t something he wants.
“Being the person who follows Hugh Jackman is not on my bucket list for anything.”
He even described following Jackman as something of a “cursed chalice”, because of how closely audiences associate the character with him.
Radcliffe has actually been linked to Wolverine for years, largely because fans believe his shorter height is closer to Logan’s comic-book appearance. Back in 2022, Radcliffe joked that he understood why people wanted a shorter actor for the role, but insisted there had never been any truth to the rumors.
The speculation became even louder after Radcliffe showed off a noticeably more muscular physique in Miracle Workers, leading some fans to wonder whether he was secretly preparing for Wolverine. His answer?
Nope.
Radcliffe said he got buff simply because he’s obsessive about fitness, adding:
“Flattered, but no.”
So while Daniel Radcliffe remains one of the internet’s favorite Wolverine fancasts, it looks like the idea was always exactly that: A fancast.
And unless Marvel somehow changes his mind, the MCU will apparently have to find another actor willing to follow Hugh Jackman.
