838-Earth Doctor Strange Tricked the Entire Illuminati About His Death

We all watched Earth-838 Doctor Strange die in Multiverse of Madness.

But what if he never actually died?

There’s one tiny detail in Professor Xavier’s memory that makes this theory surprisingly interesting: when the Illuminati defeat Thanos on Titan, his Infinity Gauntlet contains only four Infinity Stones.

The two missing ones?

The Time Stone and the Mind Stone.

And those might be exactly the two Stones Strange would need to fake his own death.

Strange Could Have Kept the Time Stone

The Time Stone is the most obvious one.

Earth-616 Strange already proved in his first movie that he could manipulate time and trap Dormammu inside a repeating time loop. The Stone gives its user control over time itself.

So imagine Earth-838 Strange knowing that the Illuminati had decided to execute him.

Instead of fighting them, he allows Black Bolt to kill him.

But he has already placed himself inside a time loop.

Once the Illuminati leave Titan, the loop resets Strange to the moment before his body was destroyed.

We’ve already watched another Doctor Strange use essentially this strategy against an enemy infinitely more powerful than himself.

And Earth-838 Strange had spent even longer experimenting with dangerous magic.

Then There’s the Missing Mind Stone

The second missing Stone makes the theory even crazier.

Professor Xavier can read minds.

That creates a huge problem for any secret escape plan. If Strange were secretly preparing to survive his execution, Charles could potentially discover it simply by looking inside his mind.

But the Mind Stone itself possesses enormous mental powers, including the ability to influence minds.

The theory is that Strange could have used it as protection against Xavier’s telepathy – essentially serving the same narrative purpose as Magneto’s helmet.

That would explain why Xavier never sensed that Strange had another plan.

And Strange Had Every Reason to Let Them Believe He Was Dead

Fighting the Illuminati would only make things worse.

Instead, Strange accepts his execution.

Black Bolt destroys him.

The Illuminati witness his “death,” leave Titan believing justice has been served, and later tell Earth-838 that Doctor Strange died heroically while defeating Thanos.

Meanwhile, if the Time Stone restored Strange after everyone was gone, he could simply disappear.

No Illuminati hunting him.

No Professor Xavier searching his thoughts.

And officially?

Doctor Strange was already dead.

None of this has been confirmed by Marvel, and the movie never reveals what happened to Earth-838’s Time and Mind Stones.

But that’s exactly why the theory works.

Thanos died with four Infinity Stones.

The two he never obtained happen to be the two Stones that could theoretically help Strange fool the Illuminati and survive his own execution.

Maybe Earth-838 Doctor Strange didn’t die on Titan.

Maybe he pulled off one last trick – and made the smartest people on Earth believe they had killed him.
