Thor is the God of Thunder and arguably one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). But is he powerful enough to take on the Eternals?
The Eternals are a set of godlike creatures that come from the planet Olympia and work under that world’s Celestials. They have shared abilities, like superhuman durability, speed, strength, reflexes, and agility, but they also possess unique powers.
Given these abilities and their godlike nature, they could pose a challenge to the Asgardian Thor in one-on-one battles. Let’s compare the Son of Odin against each Eternal to determine how powerful he really is against this group of celestial beings.
Contents
1 – Sersi
Sersi, like all of the Eternals, is immortal. This puts her and the others on an equal platform with Thor.
Her ability to teleport long distances could make it tough for Thor to keep up with her, but the God of Thunder is also no stranger to teleportation. So if he can keep up, Sersi would have to go another route in a one-on-one battle.
She can also project and plant images via telekinesis, which could spell trouble for the Asgardian.
Most fans also know Sersi for her ability to manipulate objects.
Given Thor’s ability to control the weather, unleash powerful lightning bolts, and create turbulent conditions, Sersi could mold insentient objects into shields and other defense mechanisms strong enough to ward off his attacks.
If Sersi can concoct sound defense mechanisms and hit Thor with an illusion, she could overpower the God of Thunder.
2 – Ikaris
Think of Ikaris as a jack of all trades, as he’s well-versed in all of his powers. Among them, super strength and flight are his strongest. These abilities alone could put him on-par with Thor if the two were to fight.
Energy weapons can affect Thor if they are powerful enough. And the energy beams Ikaris projects from his eyes are a well-known speciality.
As noted, Ikaris is also an accomplished flier, and he can reach speeds of 850 mph. But since Thor can fly at the speed of light with Mjolnir or Stormbreaker, the God of Thunder has an advantage here.
For Ikaris to win this fight, his best bet is to fire his cosmic energy beams and hit Thor when the Asgardian least expects it. Thanks to his heightened senses, Ikaris could catch Thor off-guard.
3 – Kingo
Kingo is another Eternal who could defeat Thor with cosmic energy blasts, which he can augment into explosions. But apart from his ability to conjure energy with his hands, there is not much to go on regarding the character.
His blasts are powerful enough that they can take out multiple Deviants with ease. Since we know little about Kingo, it’s safe to say Thor also may not know much about this Eternal.
If Thor can’t figure out the mysterious Kingo, he probably won’t win this fight.
4 – Sprite
Thor may have an advantage over Sprite because she’s the trickster of the group, and the God of Thunder has plenty of experience dealing with mischief makers thanks to growing up with Loki.
Unlike Loki, Sprite offers a bag of tricks Thor may be unfamiliar with. She is the master of illusions, and by conjuring the right one, Sprite could distract Thor.
She once tricked Sersi by manifesting shadows in the desert, so it wouldn’t be hard for her to gain an advantage over Thor.
Thor can also be overconfident, and dealing with an Eternal that looks like a 13-year-old could lead him to take her less seriously than other Eternals.
Overall, you can give this one to Sprite. Since she also possesses super strength, speed, endurance, and reflexes, Sprite can take advantage of Thor’s overconfidence and hit him with an illusion.
5 – Phastos
Phastos may be the brightest Eternal, creating and inventing technologically-advanced objects with his mind, assuming he has access to the raw materials needed.
His inventions are something that would even put 21st century technology to shame, so perhaps he could concoct something to match and even supersede Thor’s powers.
It would take a lot to subdue Thor, since his magical abilities with either Mjolnir or Stormbreaker have been shown to match up well against some of the MCU’s most powerful villains like Thanos.
Thor also showed he can defeat opponents more powerful than himself, like his sister Hela.
So although Phastos could challenge Thor with something the God of Thunder had never seen before, unless he invents a way to stifle Stormbreaker, Thor may still win in a duel against this eternal.
6 – Makkari
Speed is Makkari’s speciality, and unfortunately for her, Thor is also fast, reaching speeds well over 770 mph without his hammer. That’s faster than the speed of sound, in case you’re wondering.
Put Mjolnir or Stormbreaker in the God of Thunder’s hand, and it looks like Makkari may have a tough time keeping up.
But in the comics, Makkari once outran Quicksilver, so if she can outpace Thor, she can win.
One major advantage she has over Thor is that his sheer power may do little given her speed. The only way Thor wins this thing is if he can catch her.
There is a possibility he could catch her. But if Makkari is faster than the 2,000-miles-per-second Quicksilver, she may win this fight.
7 – Druig
As with other Eternals, Druig is like Thor in many ways. He has superhuman physiology; he can fly, teleport, and he is also nearly immortal.
This Eternal can also control minds, use telekinesis at will, and cast illusions, which could inconvenience Thor.
We’ve seen that opponents can control Thor using Obedience Disks, so a celestial being at Druig’s level can definitely pull this off.
This fight comes down to how quick Thor is. With Mjolnir, he can travel faster than most heroes in the MCU, which could be too much for Druig.
If Druig can control the God of Thunder’s mind before the latter takes flight, then the Eternal wins this battle.
8 – Gilgamesh
Gilgamesh’s defense is every bit as powerful as his offense. His arms and fists are his go-to weapons, and he can protect them with exoskeleton shields augmented with cosmic energy.
If there is a way Thor can break through these cosmic shields, he can win this fight. But Gilgamesh is also capable of matching Thor strength and endurance-wise, so the God of Thunder won’t have an easy time busting through.
9 – Ajak
As the Eternals’ leader, Ajak is at her strongest when telepathically speaking with her crew, but she also has a few powers that could help her beat Thor one-on-one.
While Thor is well-versed in controlling elements, Ajak can shape molecules and transform them into whatever she pleases. This could let her hit Thor with something he may not otherwise see coming and throw him off his game.
If Thor’s ready for whatever molecule manipulation she has concocted, however, he could overpower her.
Perhaps he hits Ajak with a bolt of lightning. But if it isn’t there, Thor can manipulate the weather to torrential levels, which could overwhelm Ajak.
10 – Thena
It was a process for Thor to build Stormbreaker after he lost Mjolnir. This isn’t the case for Thena, who can conjure any weapon she chooses. It only takes a little cosmic energy, so perhaps, if battling Thor, she can create a stronger weapon on the spot.
Besides her ability to create weapons through cosmic energy, Thena and Thor share many abilities, like superhuman speed, agility, endurance, and strength.
If Thena concocts a stronger weapon than Mjolnir or Stormbreaker, she can easily defeat Thor in a battle.
