“This Wolverine Failed His Entire World”: 3 Theories Behind This (Trailer “Deadpool & Wolverine”)

You might think, “Sure, Wolverine is always tortured by his past,” but it’s not every day we see him face such stark discrimination and insults without any excuse.

This time around, the “Deadpool & Wolverine” trailer reveals some intriguing clues.

Indeed, within these quick glimpses, we uncover 3 compelling reasons behind Wolverine’s harsh accusations.

Let’s dive into what the trailer has shown us so far.

The Wolverine Happens Before Logan (2017) Timeline

Totally, with the TVA in play, we can now jump to any timeline, no matter MCU, 21st Century Fox’s Deapool or properly, even in the X-Men series.

It seems likely that the current setting falls between “X-Men: Days of Future Past” (2023) and just before “Logan” (2029).

This theory is supported by details in the official trailer, where Wolverine struggles to extract his claws, a challenge reminiscent of his later years depicted in “Logan.”

Moreover, reverting Hugh Jackman to his youthful appearance from the 2000s presents its own set of challenges.

This brings us to the concept of the “failed” Wolverine mentioned in “Logan” (2017).

Despite mutants achieving a semblance of peace with humans, they continue to face existential threats and discrimination.

Interestingly, the decision to time travel in “Days of Future Past” might have prevented the catastrophic Sentinel onslaught but led to a more insidious form of extinction.

This backdrop of discrimination is evident in the trailer’s opening scenes where Wolverine faces prejudice from a bartender, suggesting he has resigned himself to this reality.

The year 2023 is crucial, coinciding with significant MCU events like the resolution of the blip in “Avengers: Endgame.”

These cosmic events could pave the way for the X-Men’s entry into the MCU, offering flexibility in Wolverine’s story across various timelines.

Excitingly, “Deadpool 3” is positioned to tap into any moment from Wolverine’s life post-1981.

This approach not only preserves the integrity of “Logan” but also smoothly integrates Wolverine into the broader MCU multiverse narrative.

A Wolverine Kills All The X-Men in The  Alternative Timeline?

In discussing the similarities between “Logan” (2017) and the “Old Man Logan” comic series, it’s hard to overlook the possibility of revisiting such a dramatic theme in the upcoming movie.

Particularly noteworthy are the scenes right after Wolverine passes through what appears to be tombs or a monumental statue, reminiscent of imagery from the “Days of Future Past” comic.

These visuals, coupled with Wolverine’s subsequent act of kneeling, prompt the question: “Did he feel guilt for unknowingly killing his comrades?”

In “Old Man Logan,” the storyline revolves around Logan being tricked by Mysterio’s illusions into believing he’s fighting a deadly villain. Tragically, he later realizes that he has been attacking his own teammates instead.

This leads to a harrowing scenario where Logan, deceived and manipulated, ends up killing the X-Men— a profound betrayal rooted in his misled perceptions.

There’s a potential hurdle in adapting this story due to copyright issues, as Mysterio is owned by Sony.

However, the film could substitute Mysterio with Cassandra Nova, who is rumored to be the movie’s antagonist and possesses abilities similar to Mysterio’s mind control.

The trailer suggests that Cassandra manipulates Wolverine into actions that lead to tragic outcomes, possibly being responsible for the deaths of his friends while making it appear that Wolverine is to blame.

Who is Cassandra Nova? (Deadpool and Wolverine Villain)

Although the evidence remains speculative until official announcements are made, the phrase “let down his entire world” could very well imply that Wolverine was manipulated into killing the heroes of his world.

A Timeline When Wolverine Did Not Kill Jean Grey

Diving into a theoretical timeline nestled between “Days of Future Past” and “Logan,” we find an intriguing moment: Jean Grey awakening the Dark Phoenix force.

A key detail supporting this scenario occurs at the end of “Days of Future Past,” when Wolverine, fresh from his time-travel escapades, encounters none other than Jean Grey—his long-standing love interest.

To set the stage: in “X-Men: The Last Stand,” Jean undergoes a transformation into the Phoenix, a darker, uncontrollable force.

While the Phoenix persona only emerges sporadically, it’s devastatingly powerful, turning everything around Jean to literal dust when it takes control.

The resolution in the movie is dramatic and controversial: Wolverine is compelled to end Jean emotionally, a decision that haunts both characters.

But what if we consider an alternate reality where Jean Grey survives?

With her Omega-level mutant powers, she could pose a significant threat to the multiverse, potentially triggering an Incursion—a catastrophic event that might even prompt intervention from the Time Variance Authority (TVA).

In such a scenario, if Jean were still alive and causing multiversal chaos, Wolverine would undoubtedly face significant guilt and responsibility for not stopping her sooner.

This alternative timeline not only reframes Wolverine’s actions but also highlights his complex relationship with Jean, offering a fresh perspective on his potential to impact his world.
