Morgan Stark’s Future in the MCU and Comics

Morgan Stark’s Future in the MCU and Comics

As Tony Stark’s (Iron Man’s) daughter, Morgan Stark is one character to look out for to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). And while there are no set plans that we know about to include the character, there are endless possibilities.

While Morgan Stark is not Iron Man’s replacement in the MCU, the Multiverse could let her make a surprise appearance. It is also possible she could appear in a future film or TV show alongside a character connected to her father, like War Machine or Spider-Man.

Who Will Replace Iron Man in the MCU?

The MCU is always evolving. We’ve seen characters like Sam Wilson replace Steve Rogers as Captain America, so it’s only fitting that someone would replace Iron Man (Tony Stark).

As you know, Tony Stark died after Snapping Thanos and his cronies out of existence in Avengers: Endgame. This left fans wondering whether the character would return in the Multiverse Saga or if he, like Rogers, would have a successor.

As it turned out, Stark would have a successor–at least for the short-term. Some speculated it would be Tony Stark’s daughter, Morgan Stark. But for the foreseeable future, Stark’s successor is Riri Williams (Ironheart), and she has quite the backstory.

Meet Iron Man’s Immediate Replacement

We first met Ironheart in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, when she fought Namor. We will also see her in the Disney+ series Ironheart. Here, she will take on quite a different role from her predecessor.

We knew Stark for fighting villains with a strong background in mechanics, like Ivan Vanko (Iron Man 2) and Obidiah Stane (Iron Man). Oh, and who could forget Ultron, who many consider to be Iron Man’s most powerful villain.

Williams will turn her attention to fighting magical villains, notably Parker Robbins (The Hood). Magic is still an evolving aspect of the MCU, which was grounded in science during its early days, except for Thor.

Doctor Strange kicked things off in 2016 and, since then, we’ve seen magic continue to make its mark. It’s something Ironheart will augment, and you won’t see the MCU’s magical side fading any time soon.

But that doesn’t mean we won’t see multiple successors to Tony Stark or a return to the tech-based theme that outlined the MCU’s earlier days.

Will Morgan Stark Appear in Future MCU Movies or Shows?

Circulating rumors state that Morgan Stark could appear in Avengers: Secret Wars (2026, Phase VI). Of course, anything can happen between now and when Secret Wars starts production, but the Multiverse storyline could provide the perfect recipe for her character.

The Multiverse has opened up possibilities for alternate versions of the MCU’s characters to return, and Tony Stark is no exception. Such a scenario could involve a situation where Tony never died and Morgan could have grown up fighting villains alongside her father.

Another situation could deal with Morgan in the current timeline where she developed similar interests and continued Tony’s legacy, much like Tony continued Howard’s legacy. In this case, what’s to keep her from donning her own Iron Man suits?

One compelling theory is that the MCU could involve time travel to bring Morgan into the present. While it’s likely this scenario wouldn’t fit Phase IV in the MCU, there is always a chance it could air on Disney+, like Riri Williams’ character.

Other Ways Morgan Stark Can Be Implemented into the MCU

The above theories each provide a logical way to bring Morgan Stark into the MCU, but they aren’t the only possibilities. The MCU could always foreshadow her character with a passing mention.

Another way is to connect her to Spider-Man. While this wouldn’t happen any time soon since there are no Spider-Man films on the horizon, Disney+ could always open doors if they concocted a Spider-Man-related miniseries.

Since Peter Parker was connected to Tony Stark dating back to Captain America: Civil War (2016), it would be logical to introduce Morgan Stark if such a series took place.

Morgan was supposed to appear in No Way Home in a cameo, but the MCU cut this potential appearance from the film. This would-be cameo involved Lexi Rabe, who played the younger version of Morgan in Avengers: Endgame.

Appearing alongside War Machine (James Rhodes) is another possibility. Rhodes was one of Tony Stark’s best friends, so it would be easy to envision Rhodes mentoring the younger Stark, much like Tony served as Parker’s mentor during the Infinity Saga.

Morgan Stark could also make a cameo or play a minor role in future MCU films. If the MCU were on the fence regarding Morgan Stark, throwing her into a future film as a minor character would give them an idea based on audience feedback pertaining to the character.

Is Morgan Stark in the Comics?

This is a rather complicated scenario, as Morgan Stark already appears in the comics. In the comics, Morgan is Tony’s jealous cousin and nemesis. He is the son of Edward Stark, Howard Stark’s brother, and often attempts to take control of Stark Industries.

Morgan is also a gambler, and this storyline is depicted a few times in the comics. In one instance, he tries to get out of debt from gambling by working for Tony’s nemesis, Count Nefaria. In another storyline, he works for Moroboshi International, a company that rivals Stark Industries.

After Stark and War Machine subdue Morgan, the latter appears to be killed in a car crash, only to come back as a cyborg. He is again seemingly killed before returning as an alternate, kinder version of himself.

But when he inadvertently sets off Ultimo, Tony once again comes to the rescue and Morgan is again killed. Or at least that’s what it looked like in the comics.

At his worst, Morgan is a villain, and at his best, he is on cordial terms with Tony.

It remains to be seen whether the MCU version of Morgan will appear in the comics; Pepper initially married Stark’s bodyguard, Happy Hogan. The two had no kids, but they adopted on several occasions.

However, during the Civil War, Spymaster attacks and leaves Hogan in a coma. Following his death in the comics, Stark and Potts end up together and have a child in an alternate world in 2052 in the comic Iron Man Invincible #500.

In this alternate universe, they have a son named Howard who, along with Tony, dies fighting Mandarin. However, a granddaughter, Ginny, continues where the two left off. This indicates that instead of Morgan, we could see Ginny make more appearances in the comics.

A Potential Morgan Stark Remains TBD in the MCU

Katherine Langford, the actress who played Morgan Stark in a deleted scene in Avengers: Endgame, stated that she has no answer regarding a potential comeback.

However, with the character having potential ties to others, like Spider-Man and War Machine, through her father, it is possible she could return in a role alongside one of them.

With Disney+ having several MCU series to date, possibilities remain open that Morgan could even have her own show. This could be done with her seeking to continue her dad’s legacy, or through a method like time travel.

Only the MCU knows Morgan Stark’s future in the saga. But with their actors contractually forbidden from talking about their respective characters, we will find out if Morgan has a future in the MCU when everyone else does.

Conclusion

As Tony Stark’s daughter in the MCU, Morgan Stark could easily become a regular or recurring character in the series either through Disney+ or through a future movie. Katherine Langford, who portrayed her in a deleted scene, would be the favorite to play Morgan in the MCU.

In the comics, we see a different Morgan Stark, who is the cousin of Tony. This version of Morgan is nearly always a villain seeking to take control of Stark Industries, either through his own means or by working with a rival.

As far as the comics go, we will probably never see the MCU’s version of Morgan, though a character named Ginny could wind up as an equivalent.
