Star Wars is a large franchise, and not everything is considered Canon. But in recent years, we saw some Legends characters and events shift over into Canon.
Since that trend could continue, there are more than a few characters in Legends that fans would love to see shift into Canon and become an official part of the franchise’s continuity.
So if you’ve ever wondered which Star Wars characters should be made Canon, you’re in luck, because we are listing the top ten.
Contents
1 – Starkiller
If you’re familiar with The Force Unleashed Series, then you know all about Starkiller, a Force-sensitive who served under Darth Vader as the Sith Lord’s secret apprentice and assassin.
Despite embracing the dark side, Starkiller had conflicting emotions, as he sought love more than anything. And this internal struggle made him an exciting character to many fans.
But Darth Vader nudged him into the dark side, which created more of a struggle for Starkiller.
So how could the character fit into Canon? One compelling idea is to bring him in as an Inquisitor and watch him try to break free of the dark side.
2 – Darth Revan
One of the most interesting characters in the Star Wars universe, Legends or Canon, Darth Revan faces a struggle much like Starkiller.
In Knights of the Old Republic, Revan is a Jedi who falls to the dark side, only to return to the light. He saw action in many galactic conflicts like the Jedi Civil War, and few characters in Star Wars carry a more suspenseful arc.
To canonize Revan, writers and producers can turn story elements from Knights of the Old Republic into a miniseries, a TV series, or even a full-length movie.
3 – Kreia
Another popular and well-rounded character from Knights of the Old Republic, Kreia knows the light and dark sides of the Force better than most anyone.
Her deep understanding also convinced her that the Jedi must adopt a more freethinking mentality regarding the Force. She believed that if they remained tethered to the Force, the Order would collapse.
Also like Revan, her character is compelling because, despite her knowledge of the Force, she also spent time as a Jedi Master and as a Sith Lord, where she was known as Darth Traya.
4 – HK-47
HK-47 is the latest character from Knights of the Old Republic we’re talking about here. But unlike Revan and Kreia, HK-47 is more humorous, and this assassin droid could take on a role as comic relief.
And while we’ve seen droids, like C-3PO and battle droids, serve this role in the past, HK-47 is a more ironic character since he serves as one of the galaxy’s deadliest assassins with zero regard for life.
5 – Mara Jade
Initially working for Emperor Palpatine, Mara Jade served as arguably his deadliest assassin, killing anyone he ordered without question.
Much like Revan and Kreia, Mara Jade is yet another character who embraced the dark and light sides at different times. In her storyline, she transformed from serving Palpatine to teaming up with and marrying Luke Skywalker.
Given the twists and turns in Mara Jade’s story plus her link to the Skywalker Saga, her character would be a great protagonist in a miniseries or even an all-out television series featuring her arc from villain to hero.
6 – Darth Nihilus
Our fourth character from Knights of the Old Republic, Darth Nihilus is one of the most notorious villains in Star Wars in Canon or Legends.
If Knights of the Old Republic were ever canonized, Darth Nihilus could serve as the primary antagonist for the series.
Not only does he appear as intimidating as Darth Vader, but Nihilus also loves destroying planets and anyone that gets in his way. If Vader and Palpatine were a single entity, you would get someone like Darth Nihilus.
So if you’re looking for a lethal combo of horror entwined with that of a powerful Sith Lord to shift into Canon, Darth Nihilus should grace the top of your list.
7 – The Yuuzhan Vong
The Yuuzhan Vong are powerful humanoid villains who are so powerful, they put other villainous armies like stormtroopers and battle droids to shame.
Imagine a series or movie taking off where the protagonists are fighting a species invading the Star Wars galaxy.
In this series, the Force cannot sense their presence, making these intimidating foes even more threatening. They also possess organic technology and a high level of pain tolerance that would give the most powerful heroes trouble in defeating them.
For example, in a book entitled Star Wars: The New Jedi Order by R.A. Salvatore, the species invaded the galaxy, killing trillions of residents. The Yuuzhan Vong wreaked havoc wherever they went, destroying any trace of modern technology which went against their religion.
In this version, Luke Skywalker and those from his New Jedi Academy battled and defeated them, but that all occurred in Legends.
Now that we know Luke’s storyline changed in Canon, it would be interesting to see such a series based on the book, perhaps with Rey leading the charge.
If we thought things got worse when the Empire took over the galaxy, it might be nothing compared to what the Yuuzhan Vong are capable of.
8 – Kyle Katarn
One of the most popular Jedi Knights in Legends, Kyle Katarn has an incredible story arc that culminates with him becoming a Jedi of the New Order and ally of Luke Skywalker. This character is worthy of at least a miniseries.
What makes Kyle Katarn such an interesting character worthy of Canon is that he initially served the Empire. Then he became a mercenary. A series or movie depicting his time as a mercenary would be phenomenal if you’re into nonstop action.
And Star Wars can go in a few more directions as well, whether they are looking to show Katarn during his time with the Rebellion or the New Republic, and the missions he performed when working for them.
9 – Prince Xizor
We know crime syndicates have seeped their way into Canon before, so it shouldn’t surprise you if we see Prince Xizor canonized at some point. Few are more ruthless and conniving than the leader of the Black Sun, so Xizor would be a compelling addition to Canon.
If you read his Legends story, you will notice that it’s linked to the events that took place before Return of the Jedi. Adding Prince Xizor to Canon could come as a movie serving as a direct prequel to Episode VI, as Rogue One did for A New Hope.
10 – Dash Rendar
And finally, we have Dash Rendar, a Han Solo-like character who was brilliant with a blaster and had a knack for piloting aircraft. These traits alone would make him ultra-popular in Canon, and his tragic past would also cause viewers to sympathize with him.
If you’re looking for a swashbuckling protagonist who has nothing but disdain for the Galactic Empire, Dash Rendar is a character you will want to see shift over into Canon.
Dash Rendar’s storyline intersects with Prince Xizor’s. If they made a Canon-based series or movie featuring Rendar, Prince Xizor could be part of that story.
With such a grudge against Xizor’s Black Sun and the Empire, Dash could serve as the protagonist of any show or movie and is guaranteed to be action-packed.
