As an Asgardian, Thor is one of the oldest characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). His species can live thousands of years longer than the average human, as many, from himself to his brother, Loki, and father, Odin, have implied during the films.
So you might be wondering just how old is Thor in each movie he appears in during the MCU’s official timeline.
Avengers: Infinity War took place in 2018. During the film, Thor said he was 1,500, allowing us to work backward to the movie Thor (2011), and forward to Avengers: Endgame (2023 in the MCU’s timeline). Things get murky with Love and Thunder, however.

What is Thor’s Estimated Age?
Based on the Germanic God of Thunder, you may expect the MCU to have estimated Thor’s age to be around 2,500 years old. In the Old Norse religion, the character’s roots date back to at least the Nordic Iron Age, which began between 750 BCE and 500 BCE.
Though not confirmed, the character’s roots could date back even farther to the Nordic Bronze Age, whose origins trace to 2,000 BCE. This could put the Germanic version of Thor between 2,500 and 4,000 years old.
However, MCU’s Thor is much younger since he is only loosely based on the Germanic God. In the MCU, Thor is just 1,500 years old. He has blond hair and can use his Mjolnir to fly.
We already covered the Germanic version of Thor’s estimated age earlier. In the Germanic traditions, Thor isn’t just much older. He also has red hair and is often seen with donkeys pulling his chariot to get around.
So how did we find out Thor’s estimated age in the MCU? We need to return to Infinity War, when Thor met the Guardians of the Galaxy. He stated his fighting experience and revealed his age during the conversation.
Was Thor Estimating?
Some fans have taken this as an estimate instead of an actual age. For example, take the dinosaurs’ extinction, which some camps estimate to have occurred 65 million years ago whereas others state 66 million.
Clearly, this is a rounded number, and Thor could have done the same. However, it is neither confirmed nor denied that Thor provided an exact age or a rough estimate. if he was 1,500 in 2018, the year Infinity War took place, how old was he in films before and after?
How Old is Thor in Each MCU Movie?
We first met Thor in 2011 when the MCU released the movie of the same name. The film also took place in 2011, placing Thor at 1,493 years old. Avengers occurred in 2012, making Thor 1,494. Thor: The Dark World took place in 2013, so Thor would be 1,495 in that film.
He also appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, making him 1,497. Finally, we had Thor: Ragnarok in 2017, which would make him 1,499. After Infinity War, the next time we saw Thor was in Avengers: Endgame in 2023, where he would be 1,505.
Thor: Love and Thunder was released in 2022. But since Endgame occurred in 2023, the timeline would be way off if the movie was set in 2022. Apparently, it’s set in 2025, placing Thor at 1,507 years.
Issues With the MCU Timeline?
Some have pointed out timeline issues in the MCU, and Love and Thunder director Taika Watiti basically guessed when the movie took place following Endgame. “It’s probably four years. Is that right?”
If we went by Watiti’s estimate, Love and Thunder would have occurred in 2027, putting Thor at 1,509. Watiti’s guess could be contradictory, as we know Ms. Marvel occurred in 2025.
Since Love and Thunder was also listed in 2025 right after Ms. Marvel in the official timeline, Watiti’s claim doesn’t hold water.
Thor himself stated “eight years, seven months, and six days ago” as the last time he and Jane saw one another.
This confirmed their breakup happened between Age of Ultron (Summer 2015) and Captain America: Civil War (March-April 2016). When you do the math, the latest Love and Thunder could have taken place was December 6th, 2024.
Therefore, we can only estimate Thor’s age in Love and Thunder. Per the official MCU timeline, he’s 1,507. But when you break things down, Thor could be 1,506.
Who is Older: Thor or Loki?
The overall consensus states that Thor is older than Loki. But just as we can dispute Thor’s age in Love and Thunder, it’s also easy to dispute that Thor is the older of the two.
We know Odin found an infant Loki in 965 AD. But since Asgardians and those from other realms age slower than humans, it’s possible Thor and Loki are roughly the same age.
Thor once said, “We were eight at the time” when he told Valkyrie and Bruce Banner a story where Loki transformed into a snake and tried to kill him. This also implied Loki is not older than Thor.
So if Loki was only a few days old when Odin found him in Tonsberg, Norway, he would be 1,046 years old. If Thor was 1,493 in 2011, Loki would be 447 years younger than Thor. Yet, if Thor’s story held true, they would both be 1,500 during Infinity War.
How Old is Thor in Asgardian Years?
When you look at Thor, you can tell he doesn’t look anywhere near 1,500. Since Asgardians age slower, it’s natural to ask how old the God of Thunder is in Asgardian years, instead of human years.
Loki once mentioned the average lifespan for an Asgardian hovered around 5,000 years. If we take human life expectancy in 2023, which is roughly 73, we can divide 5,000 by 73, and get 68.5 human years for every Asgardian year.
So if we take Thor’s claim that he’s 1,500 in 2018, we need to take 1,500 and divide it by 68.5, making him nearly 22 in Asgardian years. If Loki and Thor are the same age, he too would be 22. But if Loki is just 1,046 years old, he would be almost 16.
Conclusion
Thor’s age may or may not be approximate in the MCU timeline. He stated he was 1,500, but that could easily be an estimate instead of his actual age. If we go with 1,500 as his approximate age, we also know what Thor’s age was until the events of Endgame.
The MCU timeline gets messy following Endgame, so it’s harder to pinpoint Thor’s age in Love and Thunder. If we go with the official timeline that the flick took place in 2025, then we know that Thor is 1,507 if we base the age off his remark that he’s 1,500 in Infinity War.
But if we look at the holes in the timeline from dialogue, then Thor could be just 1,506 when Love and Thunder rolled around. In Asgardian years, he is around 22.
