While the Harry Potter books were initially intended for young audiences, the US Editions are all at least 300 pages long. Six books cover Harry Potter’s Magical Education at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the seventh documents his time hunting Horcruxes.
An eighth read, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, focuses on Harry’s middle son, Albus Severus Potter, and his quest to save Cedric Diggory, who was killed in Book Four, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
The Harry Potter books range from 309 pages to 912 pages. The US Editions of the seven original books contain 4,234 pages, and they grew progressively longer until Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child adds another 328 pages, bringing the grand total to 4,562.
For this article, we will use the US Edition paperbacks and go by the most recent page counts.

How Many Pages are in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone?
You may know this book as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. In it, Harry first discovers that he is a wizard who became famous after he survived the Killing Curse from Lord Voldemort, one of the most powerful dark wizards in history.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone also introduced us to an ensemble cast of memorable characters, Diagon Alley, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the legendary game of Quidditch.
We also learn the lengths Lord Voldemort will go to kill Harry and achieve immortality, even if it means temporarily living a half-life.
This is the shortest book of the series, clocking in at 309 pages.
In The Chamber of Secrets?
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets kicks off when a house elf named Dobby tries to prevent Harry Potter from returning to school, since terrible things will happen within the walls of the castle.
Not long after, Harry hears voices, and students turn up petrified. Meanwhile, we learn more about Harry’s ability to speak with snakes, leading many to believe he is the feared heir of Hogwarts co-founder Salazar Slytherin, who also shared the trait.
The Ministry of Magic decides to imprison gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid, while the School Governors suspend Dumbledore. This forces Harry to race against time to solve the mystery of the petrified students before the attacks close the school for good.
This is the second shortest book in the series at 341 pages.
In The Prisoner of Azkaban?
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban introduces us to Sirius Black, who shortly following Lord Voldemort’s downfall, was convicted of killing 13 people, including his old friend, Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail).
Black escaped Azkaban, and everyone believes he is after Harry. And it seems like he’s getting close, having broken into Hogwarts twice, targeting the Gryffindor common room.
However, things may not be all that they seem, and a traitor could be hiding in plain sight.
This book is 448 pages long. And while it is significantly longer than the previous two novels, it pales in length when compared to the final four.
In The Goblet of Fire?
In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry looks as though he will finally have a normal year at Hogwarts. And he will be entertained, thanks to the school hosting the legendary Triwizard Tournament.
That is, until someone enters Harry into the event under a fourth school, forcing him to face dragons, merpeople, and ultimately, a returning Lord Voldemort.
To make things worse, Harry also discovers a perceived ally was the one who put his name in the Goblet.
This book is 752 pages long, larger than the first two novels combined, and 304 pages longer than Prisoner of Azkaban.
In The Order of the Phoenix?
Lord Voldemort has returned, but the Ministry of Magic refuses to believe Harry Potter and Professor Albus Dumbledore’s claims. Even worse, the Ministry employs one of their own to interfere at Hogwarts, making lives miserable for everyone siding with Harry and Dumbledore.
As for Harry, he’s dealing with a plethora of issues, and Voldemort uses his connection with the boy to plant both real and false visions into his mind. The latter might just lead Harry into a trap. And in the end, Harry may lose another ally.
This is the longest book in the series at 912 pages.
In The Half-Blood Prince?
In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the Wizarding World has now accepted that Lord Voldemort has returned and is waging open warfare.
Everyone looks at Harry as the Chosen One meant to stop the Dark Lord, and Dumbledore arranges to meet with the boy periodically throughout the year.
In these private lessons, Dumbledore takes Harry through memories that document Voldemort’s rise to power, from before the Dark Lord’s birth to how he managed to keep himself alive through the darkest art.
This book, which may be the darkest in the entire series, contains 688 pages.
In The Deathly Hallows?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the final book in the original series, and this one contains an unfamiliar setting. We don’t attend Hogwarts in this one until late in the novel, so instead, we join Harry as he seeks to destroy Voldemort’s Horcruxes.
But Harry soon finds out he has a side mission, and this is to unite the Deathly Hallows, something only the Master of Death can accomplish. Unbeknownst to Harry, he already had one in his possession this entire time–he just needs to locate the final two.
There is only one problem: Harry and Voldemort are both seeking one of the Deathly Hallows. And this will lead to a final confrontation.
This book contains 784 pages.
In The Cursed Child?
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was originally a play. But it was published in book-form on July 31st, 2016, and it is often regarded as the eighth book in the Harry Potter Series.
When Harry refuses to help Amos Diggory stop his son Cedric’s death via the use of a powerful Time-Turner, Albus steps up, joining forces with Scorpious Malfoy and Delphi Diggory. Little does Albus know, however, that Delphi is not who she claims to be.
