Rather than solely relying on his allies, Doctor Strange used the Darkhold to assist the Illuminati in finding a solution to defeat Thanos.

Eventually, Strange renounced the Darkhold and helped the Illuminati to find another way, which was the Book of Vishanti.

What Price Did Doctor Strange Pay To Find a Way to Kill Thanos?

Although Strange helped the Illuminati find the Book of Vishanti to defeat Thanos, in the end, he revealed to his companions that while using the Darkhold to search through the multiverse via dreamwalking, he triggered an incursion between two realities, destroying one of them.
