4 Non-Marvel Characters That Are Worthy of Mjölnir

The first time I learned about Mjölnir, I couldn’t help but wonder: Who else, outside Marvel, could lift Thor’s hammer?

I mean, its inscription makes it clear – it’s not about strength but being worthy. That got me thinking about characters who are truly selfless, courageous, and full of heart.

Here are four non-Marvel heroes who, in my opinion, could totally lift Mjölnir.

1. Wonder Woman (Diana Prince)

When I think of Wonder Woman, the first thing that comes to mind is her incredible blend of power and kindness.

She’s not just a warrior; she’s a protector who values justice above all else. Raised on Themyscira by the Amazons, Diana grew up learning the importance of honor and compassion.

Her strength is unmatched – she’s pushed tectonic plates and even held her ground against black holes.

But what makes her truly special is her moral compass. With her Lasso of Truth, she fights for honesty and fairness, never compromising her values.

There’s a story that sticks with me about her battle against Hades. He tried to corrupt her by claiming she loved him, and she didn’t even flinch.

That kind of inner resolve is what Mjölnir looks for. Plus, there’s that one time in the Marvel vs. DC crossover when she actually lifted Mjölnir – proof that even the hammer agrees she’s worthy.

2. Samwise Gamgee

Samwise Gamgee is probably my favorite character from The Lord of the Rings. He doesn’t look like your typical hero, but his heart is bigger than Middle-earth itself.

Sam’s loyalty to Frodo is legendary. I still get goosebumps thinking about the moment he carried Frodo up Mount Doom.

He didn’t care about his own exhaustion; he just wanted to help his friend finish their quest.

There’s another moment that shows Sam’s strength – when he briefly carried the One Ring. The Ring is incredibly corrupting, but Sam gave it back without hesitation.

That’s a rare kind of humility and self-control. And let’s not forget how he faced Shelob, that terrifying giant spider.

Armed with nothing but his courage and a small sword, Sam defeated her to save Frodo. It’s moments like these that make me think Sam would lift Mjölnir with ease.

He’s the kind of humble, selfless hero the hammer was made for.

3. Optimus Prime

Optimus Prime is more than just a giant robot; he’s the heart and soul of the Autobots. I’ve always admired how he balances being a fierce warrior with being a compassionate leader.

Optimus doesn’t just fight to win – he fights to protect life. One of his most famous lines, “Freedom is the right of all sentient beings,” says everything you need to know about him.

One story that stands out to me is when Optimus was ready to sacrifice himself by merging the AllSpark with his spark to save Earth.

He knew it would cost him his life, but he didn’t hesitate. That’s what true leadership looks like – putting others before yourself.

And despite his incredible strength, Optimus fights with honor. He’s defeated countless enemies, but he always respects the value of life.

Mjölnir would recognize his courage, selflessness, and unwavering sense of justice in a heartbeat.

4. Uncle Iroh

Uncle Iroh from Avatar: The Last Airbender might seem like a surprising pick, but hear me out.

Iroh isn’t just a master firebender; he’s a wise and compassionate soul who’s been through so much and come out stronger.

After losing his son, he chose a path of peace and balance, becoming a mentor not just to Zuko but to anyone who needed guidance.

One of my favorite stories about Iroh is when he protected the last dragons by spreading a lie that he had killed them.

Instead of claiming glory, he chose to preserve life. That decision speaks volumes about his character.

Then there’s his ability to redirect lightning, a skill he learned by studying waterbenders.

It’s a perfect example of how he’s open to learning from others, always seeking balance and harmony.

Iroh’s compassion is perhaps his greatest strength. Even after Zuko betrayed him, Iroh welcomed him back with open arms, teaching him the importance of redemption.

Mjölnir would undoubtedly see his wisdom, humility, and strength of spirit as worthy.

Final Thoughts

Lifting Mjölnir isn’t about brute strength – it’s about having the right heart and mindset.

Wonder Woman, Samwise Gamgee, Optimus Prime, and Uncle Iroh each show that heroism comes from selflessness, courage, and an unshakable moral compass.

They may come from different universes, but they all remind us that true worthiness lies in what you stand for, not how strong you are.
